Monday, April 30th / East Dublin ~ The highlights for the evening came from the JV field, who battled back and forth to the bitter end, dropping a tough one run game in extra innings. The varsity squad found themselves in a 5-0 hole in after the top of the 1st and couldn’t muster any offense to dig their way out. The Jaguars of Hilliard Bradley kept adding on and won in a rout, 13-0 in 5 innings.
Offensively the Irish tallied just three hits and only got two runners as far as second base. Madison Heasley had a pair of shots up the middle and was robbed of a second hit when the center fielder picked up her drive and pegged it to second to get the lead runner for the fielder’s choice. Imani McCullough doubled to the gap in left in the 3rd inning, but she would be stranded at 2nd. She was also hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Sarah Booth had a single up the middle as well. The only other base runner for the Irish was Emily Dinan who worked a walk in the 2nd.
The Jaguars started off hot with the first 5 batters reaching base, stringing together 3 singles, a double and a walk before the Irish were able to record the first out. They batted around scoring 5 runs, and never looked back. They batted around again in the top of the 5th, putting an exclamation point on their victory. Booth was tagged with the loss, her second of the year. She pitched a complete game, giving up 13 runs on 13 hits and 6 walks.
Wednesday’s game against Worthington Christian has been cancelled due to the fact that they have to make up a league game that was previously rained out. Coach Howell is trying to find a replacement game. As of now, the next game is Thursday night, against Delaware Hayes, which is both senior night, and middle school night.
