Scioto JV Fell Behind Early in 14-5 Loss to Buckeye Valley

April 8, 2023 – Dublin Scioto High School: The Scioto JV fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-5 loss to Buckeye Valley on Saturday.  The Barons scored on a single by Kaylie Matheny in the first inning, a single by Chloe Evans in the second inning, a single by Matheny in the second inning, a error in the second inning, a error in the second inning, and a error in the second inning.

The Irish struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Buckeye Valley, giving up 14 runs.

The Barons fired up the offense in the first inning, when Matheny singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Scioto tallied three runs in the second inning.  Mariam Sowe, Nathaliya Haley, and Callie Akina each drove in runs during the inning.

The Barons scored six runs in the second inning with their batters contributing to the big inning included Evans, Matheny,  Jessie Rice, Bella Brown, and Skylar Eastman, who all drove in runs.

MJ Cress led things off on the rubber for Buckeye Valley. The pitcher surrendered five runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.

Sophia Jackson was in the pitcher’s circle for Scioto. The hurler allowed 14 hits and 14 runs over seven innings, but she did strike out four and only walked one.

The JV racked up eight hits in the game.  Akina and Haley each collected multiple hits for Dublin.  They each collected two hits to lead the Irish.

The Barons totaled 14 hits in the game.  Matheny, Tess Manning, Jaden Hamilton, and Evans each had multiple hits for Buckeye Valley.  Matheny went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead Buckeye Valley Junior Varsity Barons in hits.
