March 19, 2024 – Gahanna High School: The Dublin Scioto Varsity couldn’t keep up with Gahanna Lincoln and fell 20-1 on Tuesday at 6540 Havens Corners Road.
The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after they scored on a passed ball, Grace Miller doubled, and the Irish committed two errors, each scoring one run.
Gahanna added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Madi Hall singled, Abby Kovacevich singled, and the Irish dropped a third strike, each scoring one run.
The Lions scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. A wild pitch scored one run, Kovacevich singled, scoring one run, and Rachel Bartley hit a grand slam to center field.
Lexie Richie stepped in the circle first for Dublin Scioto. The starting pitcher gave up 11 hits and 16 runs (12 earned} over four innings, striking out seven and walking six.
Fotini Belak started in the circle for Gahanna. Their hurler surrendered three hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none.
The bats came alive in this second scrimmage for the Irish with 7 hits.
Richie went 2-for-2 at the plate, as the number three hitter, and led the team with one run batted in when she knocked Gina Wasko in. Wasko had a hit, and was accompanied by sister Maria Wasko, Hahni Miller, Leah Matter, and Abbi Clark each with a hit in the game.
The Lions had 16 hits in the game. Gahanna Lincoln’s Kovacevich made the most of their chances at the plate. The number nine hitter led the team with three hits in three at bats. Bartley and Bella Costa each drove in four runs for Gahanna. Mattie Bailey, Gabby Esterby, and Hall each collected multiple hits. Aubrey Yekisa and Kovacevich each stole multiple bases. They had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. They had 11 stolen bases for the game and commited no errors in the field
Scioto Varsity have a scrimmage on Wednesday with Grandview and welcome Hilliard Davidson on Saturday for the next game!
