March 28, 2024 – Dublin Scioto High School: In a commanding performance, Lexie Richie dazzled on the mound, striking out 12 to lead Scioto to a resounding 16-1 victory over Centennial at Dublin Scioto High on Thursday evening. Richie was nearly untouchable, allowing just a single hit and run across four innings, issuing only one walk.
The lower order of the Scioto lineup, featuring Hahni Miller, Sophia Jackson, and Lyla Magnussen, proved to be tenacious, collectively notching four hits, contributing to four runs, and driving in five.
The Irish established dominance early, exploding in the first inning with Leah Matter’s two-run triple, Magnussen getting hit by a pitch to bring in another run, and Jackson’s three-run double to break the game wide open.
The onslaught continued in the second inning as Scioto pushed across five more runs on three hits. Miscues by Centennial, including a passed ball and an error, along with key hits from Miller and a walk drawn by Gina Wasko, ballooned Scioto’s lead.
An Abbi Clark triple in the third inning further extended the Irish’s lead by knocking in two runs, making it a commanding 12-0 game.
On the defensive side, H. Glover shouldered the loss for Centennial, struggling through one and two-thirds innings and giving up 11 runs.
In relief, Jackson contributed a scoreless inning for the Irish, maintaining the defensive stronghold by allowing just one hit, striking out two, and walking none. Jackson, batting ninth, shone brightly with three RBIs and a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Maria Wasko also made a significant impact with two hits in as many at-bats, while Richie demonstrated exceptional discipline, drawing three walks. Scioto’s approach at the plate was strategic and patient, amassing 11 walks throughout the contest.
Despite the tough outing, Glover and A. Glover each managed a hit for Centennial, providing a glimmer in an otherwise challenging game.
This impressive team effort underlines Dublin Scioto’s strength and depth, from Richie’s pitching prowess to the bottom of the order’s satisfying surge, painting a picture of a team starting to coming into formidable form.
Next up for the Irish are the two games on Saturday with heated rivals Hilliard Darby. There’s a big chance for morning rains, but maybe we’ll get lucky!
Go Irish!
