April 10, 2024 – Dublin Scioto High School: With bats blazing in full force, the Westerville North Warriors turned the tables on our own Dublin Scioto Irish on Wednesday, delivering a decisive 12-1 victory.
It was a contest that saw the Irish strike first blood in the second inning, courtesy of Lyla Magnussen’s spirited double, only to watch in dismay as Westerville North unleashed a seven-run barrage in the third.
The turning point, no doubt, was Jane Gruber’s single, which brought home two runs, shifting the momentum squarely to Westerville North.
Emma Palovick’s thunderous homer in the fifth only added salt to the wound, bringing in another two runs for the visitors.
On the mound, Sophie Minister showed her mettle for the Warriors, giving up but a single run and fanning nine in a five-inning gut-punch.
Our own Lexie Richie, though she fought valiantly, was beleaguered by the relentless Westerville offense, surrendering 12 runs on a tough and rainy late afternoon.
Despite the loss, it’s worth tipping one’s cap to Magnussen, who shone brightly with her bat, securing two hits for the Irish. But the day did belong to Westerville North, with Palovick and Gabby Batte leading their charge, the former driving in three runs and the latter notching an impressive four hits.
With the skies opening up and washing away Thursday’s game, the Irish now look to regroup against Delaware Hayes on Friday at 5:15pm at home! It’s another chance for the team to rally, and for the faithful to flock to the stands in support of our beloved teams. So don your caps, warm up those vocals, and let’s show our ladies the support they deserve!
Go Irish!
