Irish Clip Falcons’ Wings in Fantastic First

April 20, 2024

April 19, 2024 – Franklin Heights High School:  In a stunning display of offensive power, Dublin Scioto overwhelmed the Franklin Heights Golden Falcons with a 15-3 victory, ignited by a phenomenal 12-run barrage in the first inning alone.

The Friday make-up game saw Dublin’s lineup cycle through with remarkable efficiency, featuring standout performances including a grand slam by Leah Matter and a solo home run by Maria Wasko.

The Irish’s explosive start in the first inning set the tone early. Faith Kinzer kicked off the scoring with a single that brought home one run, followed by two runs scoring on a wild pitch. Lyla Magnussen’s walk and a subsequent error added two more runs to the board. Kinzer, stepping up for the second time in the inning, drew a walk to plate another run, and Lexie Richie’s single added yet another. The crowning hit of the inning was Matter’s grand slam, sending the ball sailing to center field. Maria Wasko further padded the lead with a solo homer, capping off the inning’s scoring frenzy.

In the second inning, the Irish didn’t let up, with Sandra Phrakornkham blasting a three-run homer to left field, solidifying the Irish’s dominant lead.

On the mound, Richie was credited with the win after pitching a hitless, scoreless first inning with two strikeouts. Sophia Jackson provided solid relief, pitching four innings and allowing three runs on four hits.

On the opposing side, Franklin Heights’ pitcher Calaya Salley faced a tough outing, enduring one inning where she surrendered 12 runs, though none were earned, on six hits. Dublin excelled at the plate with 10 hits. Matter led with four RBIs, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Both Phrakornkham and Richie, along with Wasko and Gigi Rodriguez, each secured two hits, demonstrating the depth of the Irish offensive capabilities.

The Irish proved disciplined in their approach, accumulating 12 walks, with Magnussen drawing three and both Kinzer and Abbi Clark taking two apiece. Franklin Heights managed to score three runs, with contributions from Jadyn McKinney, Salley, and Kelsey Lehman, who also led her team with two hits from three at-bats.

Looking ahead, the Irish are set to continue their campaign on the road against Delaware Hayes on Monday, carrying momentum from their commanding performance.

So, pack your snacks and head up to Delaware on Monday to cheer on your teams!

Go Irish!
