Pacers Outpace Irish at Hayes High

April 23, 2024

April 22, 2024 – Rutherford B. Hayes High School:  On Monday in Delaware, the Scioto varsity team struggled against the Hayes Pacers, falling in a 10-1 loss. After a tough, scoreless first inning, the Pacers established their lead early in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a series of plays including a fielder’s choice by Kami Pelletier-Harris that allowed a run to score.

This was compounded by an error that brought in two more runs, followed by a single from Brownynn Leighty that drove in another run.

Leighty not only contributed on offense but also dominated on the mound, pitching a near-perfect game for Hayes. Over seven innings, Leighty struck out 15 batters, walked three, and did not allow any hits, surrendering just one unearned run.

Lexie Richie, the Scioto hurler, faced a challenging outing, giving up 10 runs, four of which were earned, across six innings. Richie also struck out six and issued one walk.

Hayes showcased a strong offensive performance, tallying 10 hits. Notable contributions came from Addison Holt and Pelletier-Harris, each recording two hits. Zee Brown and Lexi McCabe matched their teammates with two hits apiece. The team’s aggressive base running was also on full display, as they accumulated four stolen bases, including two by Holt.

The loss puts Scioto in a position to regroup before their next challenge at home against the Big Walnut Eagles on Wednesday. This matchup presents an opportunity for Scioto to refine their strategies and bounce back from the tough loss.

In more news, the Pacers have run-ruled most teams that they have played this season and the Irish took them the distance on Monday evening. And they’ll face Hayes again on Friday evening – giving the team another chance to pull out a victory, now that they’ve seen their pitching!

But this means we’re going to need everyone out there, cheering on our team and willing them to victory! And we’ll see you out there tomorrow for the matchup with Big Walnut.

Go Irish!
