Dublin Scioto High School, March 27, 2025: Before we jump into the recap of last night’s victory, we wanted to share an interesting stat from the game with Hilliard Davidson on Saturday! Have you heard of hitting for the cycle? That’s where a player, in one game, hits a single, a double, a triple, and a home run. It’s very rare and very hard to do!
Guess what? Maria and Gina Wasko hit for the cycle in that game! Maria had a single and a double, while Gina hit a triple and a home run! Special thanks to the Wasko sisters’ grandfather for spotting that gem. You don’t see that every day in softball—or ever, really.
Fast forward to Wednesday night, and the Wasko magic must have still been in the air as the Irish took care of business at home, defeating Gahanna Lincoln 8–4 behind a monster performance from Alexis Richie.
Richie delivered at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. She roped a clutch RBI single in the fifth to tie the game, then came through with a bases-clearing double in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Dublin struck first in the second inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Gigi Rodriguez. Gahanna answered in the third when Kira Bailey lined a single down the left field line to even things at one apiece.
In the bottom of the third, Scioto reclaimed the lead with help from a Lions miscue and an RBI single up the middle from Maria Wasko, giving the Irish a 3–1 edge.
But Gahanna wasn’t going away quietly. The Lions rallied in the top of the fifth with RBI singles from Bella Costa and Grace Miller, grabbing a 4–3 lead.
That lead didn’t last long. Richie’s RBI single in the bottom half knotted it up again at 4–4, setting the stage for a big sixth inning.
Lyla Magnussen worked a bases-loaded walk to give Dublin the lead, and Richie followed with a line-drive double that cleared the bases and broke the game wide open at 8–4.
Avery Reynolds came on in relief and was lights out, striking out four in two no-hit innings to earn the win. Richie started the game, striking out eight and allowing just three earned over five solid frames.
The Irish racked up 10 hits on the night, including three each from Richie and Gina Wasko. Gahanna was led by Bailey’s two hits and Costa’s two RBIs, while Gabby Esterby added two stolen bases to the Lions’ total of four swipes.
With the win, the Irish keep their momentum rolling and now look ahead to hosting Whetstone on Thursday.
Go Irish!
