Reynolds Rips Three Triples as Dublin Decimates Whetstone 16-2 in Softball Showdown

March 28, 20250

Dublin Scioto High School, March 27, 2025: In a display of sheer hitting prowess, Avery Reynolds turned the diamond into her personal showcase, racking up three triples in Dublin’s resounding 16-2 triumph over Whetstone on a breezy Thursday afternoon. Reynolds, who seemed unstoppable at the plate, led off with a triple in the first inning, added another in the third, and matched that feat later in the same inning, igniting the Irish’s offense early and often.

The pivotal moment came in a raucous third inning when Scioto erupted for an astounding 11 runs, turning the game into a veritable rout. Maria Wasko kicked off the scoring spree with a sharp single to plate a run, followed by Sophia Jackson, who blasted a run-scoring triple. Gigi Rodriguez then grounded out to bring in another run, and a costly error by the Braves allowed two more runs to cross the plate. Alexis Richie smacked a two-run single, Reynolds added her third RBI triple of the day, and Sophia Bird grounded out to score another. The inning’s scoring was capped off by Callie Akina and Gina Wasko, each hit by a pitch with the bases juiced, driving in a run apiece.

Dublin seized control right from the start, as they jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. After Reynolds’ initial triple brought home two runs, Jackson lifted a sacrifice fly to add another, and Rodriguez contributed with an RBI single. The lead grew to 5-0 in the second, courtesy of Lyla Magnussen’s productive groundout, setting the stage for the third-inning fireworks.

On the mound, Reynolds was just as dominant, clinching the win with a stellar three-inning stint where she allowed just two hits and zero runs, while striking out six and walking none. On the flip side, Avery Bair shouldered the loss for Whetstone, surrendering 12 earned runs over two and two-thirds innings, in a day she’d soon like to forget.

The Irish’s lineup was relentless, amassing 12 hits. Richie, alongside Reynolds, provided much of the firepower, garnering two hits of her own. Scioto also showed patience at the plate, working their way to five walks.

Although the Braves struggled, Jillian Nelson, Bair, Gabby Milane, and Brooklyn Brauner each managed to collect hits in an otherwise tough day at the office.

Looking ahead, the Irish aim to carry their momentum into a Saturday showdown at home against Reynoldsburg, as they continue to make noise in the season.

Go Irish!
