Dublin Scioto High School, March 29, 2025:  RECAP OF GAME ONE WITH REYNOLDSBURG

Irish Dominate Raiders Behind Wasko’s Four-RBI Day, Explode for 24-1 Victory

It was all Irish, all afternoon, as Scioto rolled past Reynoldsburg 24-1 in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Gina Wasko was locked in at the plate, driving in four runs on three hits to lead the offensive onslaught. The slugger ripped a two-run single in the second and followed it up with a two-run triple in the third, setting the tone for a dominant performance by Dublin.

The Irish erupted for 14 runs in a monster third inning, sending the lineup around and then some. Lyla Magnussen kicked things off with an RBI groundout, followed by RBI singles from Avery Reynolds and Sophia Jackson. After a Reynoldsburg miscue allowed another run to cross, Abbi Clark plated two with a base hit. Wasko’s second big knock of the day—her triple—brought in two more, and the floodgates stayed open. Magnussen came back around with an RBI single, Bre Kay knocked in a pair, Emma Gamez walked in a run, and another Reynoldsburg error tacked on two more.

The damage had already begun in the second inning when the Irish posted seven runs. Jackson ripped an RBI double, Maria Wasko followed with a triple to drive in one, and Gigi Rodriguez laced a double of her own. Katy Joseph and Gina Wasko kept it going with run-scoring singles, Alexis Richie plated two with a shot to the outfield, and Reynolds capped the frame with an RBI double.

Richie was lights-out in the circle for Scioto, spinning three scoreless innings with just one hit allowed. The right-hander struck out seven and didn’t issue a single walk. Monica Wesley took the loss for the Raiders, giving up 16 runs (13 earned) on 16 hits in just over two innings of work.

Scioto racked up 20 hits in total, with Wasko, Jackson, Reynolds, and Clark each collecting three apiece. Magnussen and Rodriguez added multiple hits of their own. Ella Sawin led the team with two walks, part of a patient day at the plate that saw the Irish draw six total free passes. Defensively, the Irish were flawless—no errors and one double play turned. Wasko led the squad with seven chances in the field.

Reynoldsburg was limited to just three hits. Paige Swift drove in the Raiders’ lone run, going 1-for-2. Emma Sprankle, Swift, and Keisha Ibe each picked up a hit, with Ibe swiping two bags on the basepaths.

The two teams square off again later Saturday in Game 2 of the doubleheader.

ALUMNI DAY

On a sunny Saturday filled with softball and celebration, the Dublin Scioto softball team hosted their annual Alumni Day alongside their doubleheader sweep of Reynoldsburg. With warm weather and the delicious aroma of a Mexican food truck in the air, past and present came together for a special afternoon. Several former Irish players returned to be honored, including current coach and Scioto alum Paige Heasley. The team took time between games to recognize the legacy and impact of those who helped build the program. It was a memorable day for the Irish—both on the field and off.

RECAP OF GAME TWO

Reynolds Mows Down Raiders as Irish Complete Doubleheader Sweep, 18-0

Avery Reynolds was untouchable in Game 2, fanning 11 batters and tossing a one-hit shutout as Scioto blanked Reynoldsburg 18-0 to complete Saturday’s sweep in dominant fashion.

Reynolds brought the heat early and often, going the full five innings without surrendering a walk and allowing just a lone hit. The right-hander was in complete control, carving up the Raiders’ lineup and setting the tone for yet another Irish rout.

At the plate, it was Lyla Magnussen who led the charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles and three RBIs. Magnussen wasted no time getting involved, singling twice in the first inning alone as the Irish hung a crooked number early.

Scioto jumped all over Reynoldsburg in the bottom of the first, pouring on nine runs to blow the game wide open. Magnussen’s two-run single started the rally, followed by an RBI double from Reynolds, RBI singles from Sophia Jackson, Katy Joseph, and Gina Wasko, who drove in two more. Magnussen came back around for another RBI knock, Richie doubled in a run, and Reynolds capped the inning with a triple that brought in yet another score.

The Irish weren’t done. In the third, they added eight more runs on just four hits, taking full advantage of wild pitches and free passes. Maria Wasko cleared the bases with a three-run single, Joseph and Gina Wasko each drew RBI walks, Abbi Clark slapped an RBI single, and Magnussen added her third hit of the day with another run-scoring single.

Reynoldsburg’s Monica Wesley took the loss, charged with 10 runs on nine hits through two innings of work.

Scioto’s bats stayed hot, pounding out 14 hits total. Reynolds, Clark, and Gina Wasko each notched multiple knocks, while Gigi Rodriguez showed tremendous patience at the dish, drawing three walks. The Irish as a team earned nine free passes and played flawless defense behind Reynolds—no errors and 10 chances cleanly handled by Wasko.

Hannah Harter was the lone bright spot for the Raiders, picking up their only hit of the game.

Scioto looks to keep the momentum rolling as they face off against Westerville South on Wednesday.

Go Irish!
