Delaware Hayes High School, April 10, 2025: On a chilly and cloudy evening at Hayes, fans were treated to a classic pitcher’s duel—despite what the final score might suggest. The Pacers used three long balls to edge out Scioto 5-0, but hits were hard to come by on both sides.
Delaware managed just four hits on the night, with all five of their runs coming via home runs. McKenna Coleman broke the scoreless deadlock with a two-run shot to left in the bottom of the second. Solo blasts from Lizzy Gould and Grace Singleton added to the tally, providing all the offense the home team would need.
Scioto starter Alexis Richie held the Pacers’ top four batters hitless and struck them out twice each, finishing with seven strikeouts over three and a third innings of work. She walked only one batter before handing the ball to Avery Reynolds, who was equally impressive. The reliever allowed just one hit and struck out five in her outing, with no walks, keeping the Irish within striking distance.
Hayes southpaw Bronwynn Leighty turned in a dominant performance of her own, striking out 14 and allowing just one hit—a single from Gina Wasko. Scioto’s defense remained solid behind their pitchers, playing error-free ball for the full seven innings, with Maria Wasko notching 12 chances behind the dish.
Despite the loss, the Irish showed grit in a tightly contested matchup defined more by power swings and stellar pitching than anything else. They’ll look to rebound Monday at home against Big Walnut.
Go Irish!
