Westerville South High School, April 18, 2025: Alexis Richie brought the thunder at the plate Thursday night, driving in five runs on four hits to lead the Irish to a dominant 16-0 win over Westerville South.
Richie wasted no time igniting the offense, ripping an RBI double in the first inning to get Scioto on the board. That opened the floodgates — Maria Wasko followed with a two-run single, and a South miscue plated another to cap a four-run frame.
The Irish kept their foot on the gas in the second. Richie punched a single to drive in another run, with Sophia Jackson drawing a walk and Katy Joseph adding a base knock to extend the lead.
Richie continued her hitting clinic in the third, hammering a triple to left that brought in yet another run. Avery Reynolds and Wasko each followed with RBI knocks down the left field line to stretch the margin to 9-0.
Scioto exploded for five more in the fourth, sparked by a leadoff double from Sophia Bird. Richie came through once again with a two-run double — her second of the night — before Reynolds and a passed ball tacked on the final runs of the inning.
In the circle, Reynolds was in command from the jump. The Irish right-hander tossed a one-hit shutout over five innings, striking out eight while issuing just one walk to notch the win.
Cailyn Chilcote took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing eight runs (just two earned) over two-plus innings of work.
Scioto tallied 11 hits overall, with Wasko and Bird collecting multiple knocks. The Irish showed discipline at the plate too, drawing nine walks — led by Gina Wasko and Emma Gamez with two apiece. Wasko also swiped a pair of bags.
Avi Nagle led Westerville South’s offense, going 1-for-2 at the plate. The Wildcats also turned a slick double play on defense.
The Irish look to stay hot Monday when they head to Worthington Kilbourne!
