Big Walnut High School, April 30, 2025: Despite outhitting the Eagles 7-3, the Irish couldn’t convert those base knocks into enough runs, falling 5-2 on the road Wednesday evening.
Dublin came out swinging, with Abbi Clark and Gigi Rodriguez each tallying a pair of hits to lead the offense. But a shaky start in the bottom of the first opened the door for Big Walnut. A costly error and a wild pitch allowed the Eagles to plate two early runs—gifts the home team was more than happy to accept.
Scioto kept things tight until the sixth, when Kennedy Reed stepped to the plate and launched a no-doubt solo shot over the left-field fence, extending the Big Walnut lead and putting the Irish on their heels.
On the mound, Sarah Adams went the distance for the Eagles, scattering seven hits over seven innings. The right-hander fanned seven and issued just one walk en route to the win.
On the other side, Alexis Richie turned in a gutsy effort for Scioto, striking out 13 and walking none over six frames. Despite allowing just one earned run, she was saddled with the loss as the Irish defense faltered behind her.
Gina Wasko and Richie each picked up an RBI for Dublin, but the clutch hit to spark a comeback proved elusive. Meanwhile, Kyra Holmes, Reed, and Anna Thornhill each chipped in a hit for Big Walnut, with Holmes and Reed driving in runs to pad the lead.
The Irish will look to bounce back quickly as they return home Thursday to face off against Westerville North. First pitch is set, and Scioto will be hungry for redemption.
Go Irish!
