Scioto Crushes Westerville North Behind Richie’s Dominant Performance

May 6, 20250

Dublin Scioto High School, Friday, May 2, 2025: With rain threatening all evening, it was all Irish under the Friday night lights, as Scioto steamrolled Westerville North 11-1 behind a dazzling two-way effort from Alexis Richie.

The ace right-hander was dealing from the jump, punching out 13 Warriors over six innings while surrendering just three hits and one earned run. That lone blemish came early, as Westerville’s Gabby Botte ambushed a pitch in the top of the first, launching a solo shot to right center to give the Warriors a brief 1-0 edge.

But that lead didn’t last long.

Scioto came roaring back in the home half of the first, hanging a five-spot on the board with a relentless mix of contact and chaos. Richie helped her own cause with a rope of a double after a gritty six-pitch at-bat, driving in a key run to ignite the Irish offense.

From there, it was all green.

Gigi Rodriguez tacked on a sac fly in the third to stretch the lead to 6-1, and the Irish never looked back. They piled on in the sixth to put the game away for good.

At the plate, Richie was a wrecking crew on her own, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. Avery Reynolds matched her hit-for-hit, notching three of her own. Scioto finished with 10 knocks on the day, while Sophia Jackson, Reynolds, and Rodriguez each drove in a pair.

Westerville’s Mallory McLean took the loss, tagged for 11 runs (seven earned) over five and two-thirds innings. She gave up 10 hits and five free passes.

Defensively, the Irish were flawless. Maria Wasko led the way with 13 chances in the field as Scioto played clean ball from start to finish. Lightning strikes delayed the game in the fifth inning, but they were able to retake the field and finish it up in style.

Because of upcoming construction, this was the final home game for the senior class. All games will be away from here on out.

Next up for the red-hot Irish? Well, we were supposed to have a trip to Thomas Worthington on Monday, but rain interfered again. We’ll keep you updated on the remainder of the week.

Go Irish!
