Olentangy Orange High School, May 7, 2025: After two successive rainout games, the Irish picked up a non-conference game with Olentangy Orange when the sun finally peeked out again. It was a tough night at the ballpark for the Irish as they dropped an 8–1 decision to the Pioneers under the Wednesday evening lights.
Orange got things cooking in the home half of the second. With two runners aboard, Lacie Knick ripped a single that brought in a pair, and moments later, Jordyn Pelles laced a triple to deep right-center to tack on another. Just like that, it was 3–0.
The Pioneers weren’t done. In the third, Elaina Massaro drove a single up the middle, pushing the lead to 4–0. From there, it was all Orange, who put together an 11-hit performance.
Gauri Naik was dominant in the circle for the Pioneers. The right-hander went the distance, scattering four hits across seven innings, giving up just one unearned run, and fanning 14 Irish batters while issuing only one walk.
Avery Reynolds took the loss for Scioto, tossing two and a third innings, surrendering four runs on five hits while striking out four. Alexis Richie came on in relief, putting in solid work with six punchouts over three and two-thirds.
The Irish got a lone RBI from Lyla Magnussen, who finished 1-for-3. Scioto also saw hits from Gina Wasko, Sophia Jackson, Abbi Clark, and Magnussen, but couldn’t string together enough offense to threaten.
For Orange, it was Pelles who set the tone from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4. Naik helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 night and a game-high three RBIs. Knick added two knocks in three trips to the plate.
Next, the Irish look to bounce back as they head on the road Thursday for a tilt with Hilliard Darby. No rain in the forecast for the next few days, so fingers are crossed!
