Kilbourne Trounces Irish, To Split Battle Of Hard Road – Scioto Softball

Kilbourne Trounces Irish, To Split Battle Of Hard Road

May 4, 2019

Thursday, May 4th / East Dublin ~ Again, rain in the forecast made the game doubtful.  And again, the rains came while the host team Irish was warming up.  Kilbourne never got off the bus.  They sat on the bus and in fact were getting on another bus in anticipation of returning home when the rains stopped.  They dismounted, and promptly put a 13-3 butt-whooping on the Irish, getting a little revenge for the 12-4 thumping the Irish dealt back on April at the Wolves home field.  Again, maybe it should have kept raining…

After a quick 1-2-3 top of the 1st, the Irish came to bat looking to get on the board first. Iu6 Imani McCullough led off with a walk, stole second and quickly found herself at third.  That’s as far as she would get, the Irish squandering the scoring threat.

The Wolves got on the board first instead in the 2nd inning.  After a leadoff single, and a pair of ground outs, the Kilbourne pitcher launched a 2-out big fly over the center field fence to put the Wolves up 2-0.  In the bottom half of the inning Scioto responded.  Madison Heasley led off with a walk, Emily Dinan bunted her to 2nd, she moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on sac fly by Haley Gibson.

A 6-pitch 1-2-3 top of the 3rd brought Scioto to the plate again, but 2 strikeouts and a soft pop up was all they could generate.  Then the roof fell in.  In the top of the 4th, 6 hits, a walk and several errors saw Kilbourne send 15 batters to the plate, scoring 9 runs to effectively put the game away.  The Wolves added a pair of unearned runs in the top of the 5th to take a commanding 13-1 lead.  Scioto needed to score 3 times to extend the game.  Gibson broke up the Wolves pitcher’s bid for a no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the 5th.  After moving to 2nd on a wild pitch, Makayla Jauregui drove her in with a single up the middle, taking 2nd on the throw home.  Jauregui stole 3rd and scored on a passed ball.   That is where the scoring stopped, and Scioto found itself on the unfamiliar end of a losing score against the Wolves.

Sarah Booth started on the mound and threw 3 1/3 innings before being lifted for a reliever.  She allowed 8 hits and walked 3 taking the loss.  Heasley came on in relief to try and quell a rally, and with 1 out and the bases loaded, got the final two outs of the 4th inning getting a sac fly and a strikeout.  She gave up only 1 hit and walked 2 in her 1 2/3 inning effort closing the game

Scioto hits the road Saturday to participate in the Dublin Triad, Battle for The Cure.  They’ll head to Dublin Jerome to take on the Celtics in the final OCC League game of the season at 10:00, and then will play the Coffman Rocks at noon.  They return home Monday at 5:00 hosting the sectional semi-final game against the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats.
