Early Lead For Delaware Hayes HS Seals Fate For Scioto

The Irish fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 18-4 loss to Delaware Hayes on Thursday.  Delaware took the lead on a single in the first inning.

Scioto struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Hayes, giving up 18 runs.

The Pacers got things started in the first inning.  Slayton singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Delaware scored seven runs in the fourth inning.  Thompkins, Slayton,  Stefanski, Richey, and Leighty each drove in runs during the inning.

Leighty earned the win for the Pacers. She went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one.  Stefanski threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Taylor Henry took the loss for the Irish. The righthander surrendered 12 runs on 16 hits over five innings, striking out three.

Scioto hit one home run on the day. Nina Moffett had a homer in the 2nd.

The Irish tallied seven hits in the game.  Isabella Jauregui and Faith Kinzer each racked up multiple hits for the Irish.  Kinzer and Jauregui each collected two hits to lead Dublin Scioto.

Delaware Hayes scattered 23 hits in the game.  Thompkins, Brown, Slayton, Leighty, Richey, Gist, Cloud, and Nelson all had multiple hits for the Pacers.  Thompkins went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead their team in hits.
