GAME 1

The Coffman JV Captures Lead Early to Defeat the Scioto Irish

The Irish watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 12-5 loss to the Rocks in the first Triad game on Saturday. Coffman scored on a single by Ava Smith, a fielder’s choice by Evelyn Hannah, and a double by Olivia Franklin in the first inning.

Scioto struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Coffman, giving up 12 runs.

The Shamrocks opened up scoring in the first inning, when Addy Kisiel drew a walk, scoring one run.

Scioto put up three runs in the third inning.  Their big bats in the inning were led by singles by Vicky Kurpita and Sophia Fuchs and a fielder’s choice by Mariam Sowe.

The Rocks scored five runs in the fourth inning.  Their bats were led by Smith, Monica Whitcomb, and McKenna Reynolds, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Whitcomb got the start for Coffman. The righty allowed eight hits and five runs over five innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Sophia Jackson was in the circle for Scioto. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing 12 hits and 12 runs while striking out three.

The Irish totaled eight hits.  Abbi Clark and Fuchs each had multiple hits for Scioto.  Fuchs and Clark both collected two hits to lead the team.

Coffman tallied 12 hits in the game.  Whitcomb, Pia Wages, Franklin, and Smith all had multiple hits. Whitcomb led the Shamrocks with three hits in four at bats.

 

GAME 2

The Irish Grab Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Jerome

The JV stole the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over the Celtics in the second game on Saturday.  Tied at four with Scioto batting in the top of the fifth, an error by Jerome scored two runs for the Irish.

Scioto built a four-run lead in the third inning and then held off Jerome’s charge.  The Celtics scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Mahan in the third, a single by Inger in the fourth, a groundout by Ella in the fourth, and a triple by Mahan in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jerome tied things up at four when Ella grounded out, scoring one run.

Sophia Jackson pitched the Irish to victory. The bulldog went five innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one.

B. Herron started the game for the Celtics. The pitcher gave up four hits and four runs over three and a third innings, striking out four.  Inger threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.


The Irish racked up six hits in the second game.  Jackson and Sophia Fuchs each collected multiple hits for Scioto, each with two hits to lead the team.

Mahan led Dublin Jerome with two hits in three at bats.
