Dublin Dominates, Decimating Canal Winchester in Decisive Third Inning

April 2, 2024

Monday, April 1, 2024 – Dublin Scioto High School:  In a display of sheer offensive power, the Irish steamrolled past the Canal Winchester Indians with a commanding 15-2 victory on the home grounds of Scioto High.

The highlight of the game was an explosive third inning where Dublin erupted for nine runs, setting the tone for the rest of the matchup. Maria Wasko and Lexie Richie led the charge with key singles that knocked in runs, while Sandra Phrakornkham made her presence felt both at the plate and in the field.

An unfortunate error by the Indians contributed to the Irish’s big inning, alongside a hit-by-pitch that brought Gina Wasko to base, ultimately driving in a run.

The game started with Canal Winchester taking an early lead, thanks to Mikela Hickman’s groundout which plated two runs.

However, Scioto quickly answered back in the second inning, tying the game and then some, thanks to Hahni Miller’s walk, another error by Canal Winchester, and Sophia Jackson’s sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 4-2 in favor of the Irish.

On the mound, Lexie Richie delivered a stellar performance for Scioto, allowing just three hits and two runs over five innings, while striking out five and issuing two walks.

On the other side, Canal Winchester’s Grace Brinker struggled, lasting only a third of an inning and surrendering five runs. Caroline Adams, starting for the Indians, also faced difficulties, giving up six runs despite not allowing a hit over the first two innings of work. She did give up five walks, costing her two earned runs.

Phrakornkham, Richie, and Wasko each contributed hits in this high-scoring affair, with Phrakornkham and Jackson driving in three runs apiece. Discipline at the plate was key for Dublin, as they worked nine walks in the game. Faith Kinzer and Miller lead the team with two walks each.

The team’s defense was tight, with Miller turning a critical double play that helped maintain their lead. She nabbed a line drive out of the air and caught the runner leaning too far off from first base.

Canal Winchester found some offense in Hickman’s RBI, with Madi Frasure, Fendall Rudd, and Kara Schader each managing a hit. But it wasn’t enough to contend with the Irish’s onslaught.

Next up for the Irish is a road trip to face off against Franklin Heights on Wednesday, where they’ll look to continue their dominant performance.

Go Irish!
