May 2, 204 – Groveport Madison High School: In a competitive matchup at Groveport, Scioto fell short against the Cruisers, ending with a 4-2 defeat on Thursday.
Groveport capitalized early, scoring twice in the first inning through Addison Cothern’s single and a subsequent wild pitch. Despite a spirited effort, Dublin couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
Abbi Clark started out the third with a triple to right field. Sandra Phrakornkham drove in the first run for the Irish with a sacrifice fly to center.
However, Aly Roach of Groveport Madison extended their lead with a timely single in the same inning.
The Irish managed to narrow the gap in the sixth when Lyla Magnussen scored their second run off a Leah Matter single to left field, but that was the closest they got.
On the mound, Aly Roach clinched the win for the Cruisers, delivering a strong performance by allowing only two runs (one earned) on seven hits over seven innings, while striking out five.
In contrast, fireballer Lexie Richie absorbed the loss for Dublin, surrendering four runs (three earned) across six innings, striking out five and walking one.
Magnussen was a standout for Scioto, hitting three-for-three at the plate. Phrakornkham and Matter each notched an RBI, trying to spark a Dublin comeback. For Groveport Madison, Roach and Olivia Gibbs led with two hits each, contributing significantly to their team’s offense.
Looking ahead, Scioto aims to rebound in their next games at the Dublin Triad against Jerome and Coffman on Saturday.
