Magnussen and Rodriguez’s Clutch Hitting Shines Bright as Irish Eclipse Centennial Stars

March 14, 2025

Centennial High School: On a very warm March evening, Scioto visited Centennial for a scrimmage on Thursday. Only 5 innings were played, and there were situational runners on first, first and second, and second and third in later innings. So, the runs scored don’t truly reflect a real game scenario.

However, Gigi Rodriguez drove in four runs on one hit to lead the Irish past the Stars 18-4! In the fifth inning, Rodriguez hit a grand slam to left field.

Home Run Swing!

Scioto jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Avery Reynolds doubled, scoring two runs, and Sophie Bird grounded out, scoring one run.

The Irish added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Reynolds grounded into a fielder’s choice, and Dublin scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.

Scioto scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Callie Akina singled, scoring one run, Miriam Sowe singled, scoring one run, Gina Wasko doubled, scoring two runs, and Lyla Magnussen grounded out, scoring one run.

Dublin Scioto Varsity Irish scored eight runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Sophia Jackson drew a walk, scoring one run, Rodriguez hit a grand slam to left field, and Magnussen doubled, scoring three runs.

Reynolds earned the win for the Irish. The hurler gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out six and walking one.

#13 took the loss for Centennial. Their pitcher went three innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking five.

Alexis Richie collected the save. Makaylee Horiba threw one inning of no-run ball for Scioto in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out one and walking none.

They had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Magnussen and Katy Joseph led the team with two walks each. The Irish turned one double play in the game.

Up next, the Irish face Hilliard Davidson and Bishop Ready in a triad at the Wildcat diamond on Saturday, March 22nd at 10AM!  So be sure to come out and support them!
