Westland High School, April 7, 2025: It was all Irish, all game, as Avery Reynolds put on a show at the plate, racking up eight RBIs on three clutch hits to lead Scioto to a commanding 22-0 victory over Westland on Monday.
Reynolds wasted no time making her mark—launching a three-run shot over the left field wall in the top of the first. She followed that up with a two-run single in the third and a bases-clearing double in the fourth. Talk about bringing the thunder!
Meanwhile, in the circle, Alexis Richie was untouchable. The right-hander turned in a masterclass performance, striking out 14 batters in five no-hit innings! The Cougars managed just one baserunner via walk, but never came close to breaking through.
The Irish got rolling early with a seven-run first inning, sparked by Richie’s RBI single and capped by Reynolds’ bomb. Katy Joseph added an RBI knock, and Gina Wasko chipped in with a fielder’s choice that brought another run across. Richie wasn’t done either—she came back around to the plate and slapped a bases-loaded single that cleared the bags for four more runs.
In the third, Reynolds struck again with a two-run single to center. Scioto piled it on in the fifth, plating six more behind a string of hits from Emma Gamez, Wasko, Lyla Magnussen, and Sophia Jackson. A passed ball and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Gigi Rodriguez added insult to injury for the Cougars.
Westland’s Berryman took the loss, going 4.1 innings and surrendering 22 runs (20 earned) on 13 hits, walking 10.
At the dish, the Irish were relentless. Wasko, Richie, and Magnussen each tallied multiple hits, while Abbi Clark showed great plate discipline, drawing three walks. As a team, Scioto collected 13 hits and 10 walks—and they ran the basepaths with confidence, swiping four bags.
Defensively, the Irish were flawless. Maria Wasko anchored the field with a team-high 14 chances, helping Scioto keep the Cougars completely off the board.
Westland did manage to turn one double play, but it was far from enough to stop the onslaught.
Scioto returns to action Tuesday at home, where they’ll look to keep the momentum going against Delaware Hayes on Thursday!
