Irish Split Rivalry Doubleheader at Dublin Classic Behind Reynolds’ Dominance and Richie’s Hot Bat

May 12, 20250

Dublin Jerome High School, May 10, 2025: On a warm day in May, we gathered for our annual Dublin Classic to renew some rivalries and help raise money for cancer research.

Game 1 Recap – Scioto vs. Jerome

Avery Reynolds delivered a commanding performance in the circle to lead the Irish past the Celtics, 5-2, in Saturday’s opening matchup at the Dublin Classic. The Scioto ace struck out 14 and allowed just two runs on six hits in a complete game effort, walking only one.

The Irish jumped ahead in the top of the first when Sophia Jackson grounded out, bringing home two early runs. The momentum continued in the third inning, with Alexis Richie lacing a double to left field to score one, followed by a Jackson RBI single down the right field line.

Sabrina Conley took the loss for Jerome, allowing four runs—two of them earned—on four hits over three innings of work. She struck out two and didn’t issue a walk.

Jackson anchored the middle of the lineup for Scioto, driving in two runs and finishing 1-for-4. Gina Wasko sparked the Irish offense from the top of the order with a 3-for-4 day, while the team showcased aggression on the bases with four steals.

Jerome was led offensively by Marley Muhn, who went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot. Zoe Johnson and Adella Pawlowski each chipped in with an RBI. Defensively, the Celtics turned a double play to limit further damage.

Game 2 Recap – Scioto vs. Coffman

Despite a three-hit day from Alexis Richie, the Irish fell to the Shamrocks, 15-5, in Saturday’s second game of the Dublin Classic. Richie tripled in the first inning and singled in both the fourth and fifth, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

Scioto struck first when Richie’s triple drove in the game’s opening run, but a defensive miscue allowed Coffman to tie it up in the bottom half of the first.

The Shamrocks broke the game open in the second, exploding for five runs on six hits. A two-run single from Hannah Skornicka highlighted the inning as Coffman surged ahead 6-1. They added four more in the third on a fielder’s choice, an RBI single from Layla Miles, and a two-run single by Emma Nyikes.

Caraline Olberding earned the win for Coffman, going six innings and allowing five runs—four earned—on seven hits while striking out seven. Richie pitched for the Irish, striking out six in five and two-thirds innings, but was tagged for 15 runs, nine of them earned, on 13 hits.

Gina Wasko and Richie were bright spots offensively for Scioto, each tallying three hits. The Irish also turned a double play defensively.

Coffman racked up 14 hits, led by Miles, who went 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot. Olberding, Skornicka, and Myla Foust each added multiple hits to power the Shamrocks’ offense.

The Irish will look to bounce back Monday with a road matchup at Thomas Worthington!

Go Irish!
