Scioto Claims Division II Region 5 Title Behind Richie’s Dominant Performance
Central Pickerington High School, May 28, 2025: Dublin Scioto is headed further into to the state tournament!
On a cool, cloudy evening at Pick Central, the Irish secured their place in school history with a dramatic 4-2 extra-inning victory over Teays Valley. With the win, Scioto clinched another win in the Division II Region 5 bracket—marking the deepest postseason run in program history and placing them just three wins away from an OHSAA state title.
Wednesday’s showdown was a true pitcher’s duel, with senior ace Alexis Richie leading the charge. The right-hander was electric, throwing a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 15 and walking five over eight innings of work.
Top of the second, Abbi Clark reached on a groundout error and made it to second base. Gigi Rodriguez sacrificed and reached on an error, pushing Clark to third. Then a Katy Joseph fly-out sends Clark home to make it 1-0. Three more innings pass by with no score.
After falling behind 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Irish showed resilience. In the top of the seventh, Clark doubled to left-center. Joseph battled through a seven-pitch at-bat to rip a single to right, scoring the tying run and setting the stage for late-inning heroics.
Then came the moment.
With two outs in the top of the eighth and a runner aboard, Richie stepped into the box and crushed a go-ahead home run to right center field—an exclamation point on a dominant day both in the circle and at the plate. She wanted the ball, she wanted the moment. And she delivered—like she always does.
Richie wasn’t alone. The Irish lineup chipped in seven hits, including contributions from Gina Wasko, Joseph, Sophia Jackson, reyClark, Avery Reynolds, and Lyla Magnussen.
Teays Valley’s Alyvia Lawrentz was sharp in defeat, tossing eight innings with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
Now 18-8, the Irish advance to face 25-2 Mount Vernon to play for the Region 5 Championship on Friday at 5 p.m. back at Pickerington Central.
With momentum—and history—on their side, Scioto isn’t finished yet.
We’ll see you out there!
Go Irish!
