DUBLIN, OH, Thursday, March 19, 2026 — A rare calm settled over the Scioto field Thursday evening, the kind of early spring night in Ohio that feels borrowed rather than earned. The sun dipped behind a layer of low clouds, the breeze barely stirring, and for four innings, it was the pitchers who owned the spotlight.
Scioto and Grove City traded zeros in a tightly contested duel, each lineup searching for a breakthrough that refused to come. Every baserunner felt magnified. Every out carried weight.
In the circle, Avery Reynolds was in command early for the Irish, working efficiently and keeping Grove City off balance. Across the diamond, Stephanie Dent matched her pitch for pitch, turning the game into a quiet chess match through the first half.
Then came the fifth.
What had been a controlled, methodical game suddenly erupted into a marathon inning that flipped everything on its head. Grove City broke through first, stringing together timely hits and capitalizing on opportunities. Addy Schilling delivered the biggest blow — a double that cleared the loaded bases and cracked the game open. A sacrifice fly from Cami O’Neal and an RBI single from Addison Phillips added to the surge, and just like that, the Greyhounds had seized control 5-0.
Scioto answered, refusing to let the game slip away without a fight. Lyla Magnussen led the charge with two hits on the night, while Gina Wasko, Magnussen, Abbi Clark, and Gigi Rodriguez each drove in runs to keep the Irish within striking distance.
Reynolds battled through a complete game in the circle, striking out nine, while Dent steadied things late for Grove City, limiting further damage and preserving the lead.
After a quiet start gave way to a decisive fifth inning, Grove City pulled away and handed Scioto an 8–4 loss.
Next up: Scioto hits the road Tuesday for a matchup at Gahanna Lincoln! We’ll see you out there!
Go Irish!!!
