Dublin Scioto High School, April 2, 2026: Under clear skies and a warm spring sun, Scioto hosted Worthington Kilbourne on Thursday night for the Battle of Hard Road—our rival just a few miles down the street, but one that drew a big crowd and plenty of energy. With Spring Break in full swing, younger fans lined the fences, adding to the buzz of a near-perfect evening for softball.
From the start, it felt like one run might be enough.
Both teams settled in early, trading scoreless innings as each side searched for a breakthrough. Worthington Kilbourne put a few balls in play, but Scioto’s defense stayed sharp, and Avery Reynolds quickly found her rhythm in the circle.
The breakthrough came in the third.
Abbi Clark sparked the Irish offense with a triple to right center, bringing home the first run of the night and igniting the crowd. Moments later, Reynolds helped her own cause with a groundout that plated another, giving Scioto a lead that immediately felt significant given how the game had unfolded.
And from there, Reynolds took over.
Working efficiently and confidently, she kept Kilbourne off balance all night, allowing just three hits and never letting a scoring threat fully develop. Behind her, Scioto continued to apply pressure—adding runs while staying aggressive on the basepaths. Lyla Magnussen led the way with two stolen bases, part of a four-steal effort that kept Kilbourne’s defense on edge.
At the plate, Magnussen, Clark, and Maria Wasko each collected two hits, while timely hitting across the lineup steadily built the advantage. Kilbourne played clean defense and had contributions from Juliana Orlins, Jamie Gundel, and Kensley Pfeiffer, but couldn’t find the timely hit to shift momentum.
By the final innings, the outcome felt firmly in hand.
In a rivalry matchup that brought out a big crowd and that energy that spurs the team on, Scioto delivered a composed, complete performance—securing a 5–0 victory over Kilbourne behind a dominant shutout from Reynolds.
Next up for Scioto is a game against Westland on Monday and then Buckeye Valley on Wednesday! So let’s keep the momentum going and come out to support the team!
Go Irish!!!
