Reynolds Goes the Distance as Scioto Wins 10-Inning Thriller

May 1, 20260

Weterville North High School, April 30, 2026: A cool breeze drifted across Westerville North’s field Thursday night, the sun fading behind soft clouds as the temperature dipped just enough to remind everyone it wasn’t quite summer yet. Still, it was a perfect setting for softball—and what followed turned into one of the longest, most hard-fought games of the season.

This one didn’t end in seven.

Or eight.

Or nine.

From the start, Scioto showed life at the plate. After Westerville North scratched across a run on a wild pitch in the first, the Irish answered quickly. In the second, Gigi Rodriguez ripped a double down the line, and Katy Joseph followed with an RBI single to take the lead. An inning later, Maria Wasko added another run with a single to center, giving Scioto a 3–1 edge.

And then… the bats went quiet.

For innings, Scioto continued to put the ball in play, but couldn’t find the breakthrough hit to extend the lead. Meanwhile, Westerville North slowly chipped away. In the sixth, a double and a defensive miscue allowed the Warriors to tie the game, setting the stage for a tense finish.

And still, no one blinked.

In the circle, Avery Reynolds delivered one of the grittiest performances of the year. She went the distance—all ten innings—throwing 160 pitches while striking out 15 and walking just one. Seventy percent of her pitches were strikes, and even as the innings stretched on, she continued to attack hitters and keep Scioto in position to win.

That lone walk? It came around to score—a reminder of just how thin the margin was all night.

With the game locked at three heading into the tenth, the moment finally arrived.

Yonit Rodriguez stepped in and delivered the swing Scioto had been waiting for—a clutch double that drove in two runs and broke the deadlock. After innings of tension, the Irish finally had breathing room.

Reynolds took care of the rest.

Despite three defensive errors behind her and a relentless Westerville North lineup, she closed the door in the bottom half, sealing a hard-earned win in a game that tested everything — endurance, focus, and resilience. The Irish tallied 14 hits in the game. Gina Wasko, Lyla Magnussen, Abbi Clark, Reynolds, and Rodriguez each collected two hits for Dublin

After a night where nothing came easy and every inning mattered, Scioto outlasted Westerville North for a 5–3 extra-inning victory.

Next up: The Irish return home Saturday to face Pickerington Central and after a battle like this, they’ll be ready for whatever comes next. We hope to see everyone out at the field bright and early and cheering on our team!

Go IRISH!!
