April 19, 2023 – Westerville South High School: The Irish took the lead late in the game in a 10-9 victory over the Wildcats on Wednesday.
In another exciting game, they were tied at nine with Scioto batting in the top of the seventh when Mariam Sowe grounded out, scoring one run.
The Irish built a seven-run lead in the second inning and then held off Westerville South’s charge. The Wildcats tallied eight runs in the failed comeback. Cailyn Chilcote, Delaney Weimer, Joella Marcum, Allison Share, Grace Rutherford, and Marcum powered the rally with RBIs.
Dublin opened up scoring in the first inning. Nathaliya Haley drew a walk, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, South tied things up at nine when Ari Nagle grounded out, scoring one run.
After the Irish scored one run in the top of the fourth, Westerville South answered with one of their own. Dublin scored when Abbi Clark singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. The Wildcats then answered when they scored one run on a stolen base.
The Irish notched four runs in the second inning. The rally was led by walks by Madalyn Dean and Vicky Kurpita, a single by Haley, and an error on a ball put in play by Sophia Jackson.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the fifth inning. Westerville’s big bats were led by Rutherford, Marcum, and Kara Francis, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Jackson was in the pitcher’s circle for the Dublin JV. The bulldog lasted seven innings, allowing ten hits and nine runs while striking out three.
Chilcote started the game for Westerville South. The pitcher went two innings, allowing eight runs on five hits and striking out one. Marcum threw five innings in relief.
Scioto collected nine hits. Clark and Callie Akina collected multiple hits for Dublin. Akina and Clark each collected two hits to lead Dublin the Junior Varsity.
Westerville South racked up ten hits. Laynie Gibbs, Rutherford, Nagle, and Francis all managed multiple hits for the Wildcats.
