Irish Leave Runners Early, Find Rhythm Late in Win Over Buckeye Valley

April 9, 20260

Dublin Scioto High School, April 8, 2026: A calm, sunlit evening settled over the Scioto field Wednesday as the Irish hosted Buckeye Valley, with fans lining the fences and a steady buzz in the stands. It felt like the kind of spring night built for offense — but early on, runs were hard to come by.

Scioto had traffic on the bases almost immediately, stringing together hits and working counts, but couldn’t quite deliver the big swing. Time and again, the Irish threatened, only to leave runners waiting as innings slipped by. Even with two-out RBIs sprinkled in, the feeling lingered that more was there for the taking.

Meanwhile, in the circle, Avery Reynolds made sure it didn’t matter.

The right-hander was in complete command from the first pitch, overpowering Buckeye Valley hitters with a mix of precision and pace. Strikeout after strikeout piled up as she controlled the tempo, never issuing a walk and allowing just two hits across the entire game.

Scioto finally broke through in the second inning. Gina Wasko lined a single to bring home the first run, and from there, the Irish slowly began to separate — not with one big inning, but with steady, persistent pressure.

At the plate, Reynolds led the way, collecting three hits and consistently setting the tone. Maria Wasko delivered from the lower half of the lineup, driving in three runs, while Gigi Rodriguez added multiple hits of her own. Despite leaving 10 runners on base, Scioto kept finding enough timely production to build a cushion.

Defensively, the Irish were just as sharp. Clean, error-free play backed Reynolds’ dominant outing, with Wasko leading the way in the field.

Buckeye Valley managed a run and a couple of hits, with Cameron Indiciani and Kylee Young providing the offense, but couldn’t generate sustained momentum against Reynolds’ command.

What started as a slow burn eventually turned into a controlled finish.

Behind a dominant performance in the circle and just enough timely hitting, Scioto pulled away for a 7–1 victory over the Barons.

Big game on Thursday with heated rivals Delaware Hayes, so be sure to pack the stands and cheer on our team!

Go Irish!
