The Irish Claim Lead in Sixth Inning to Defeat Canal Winchester

April 25, 2023

April 24, 2023 – Dublin Scioto High School: Perhaps a bit tired from the Home Run Derby on Sunday or the unexpected cold weather that had everyone pulling sweatshirts out of winter storage, the Irish snagged the lead late in the game to defeat Canal Winchester 2-1 on Monday.

The game was tied at one with Scioto batting in the bottom of the sixth when Faith Kinzer singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Taylor Henry struck out 12, while Canal Winchester pitchers sat down six.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dublin tied things up at one when Henry’s sac fly scored one run for the Irish.

Henry was credited with the victory for Scioto. The ace surrendered one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one. The Irish faced another situation with bases loaded and no outs, but they managed to get out of the inning without giving up a run.

Brinker was in the circle for Canal Winchester. The Indians pitcher allowed three hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out one.  Richards threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Bella Jauregui led Dublin Scioto Varsity Irish with two hits in three at bats.

#6 for Canal Winchester went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Indians in hits.

JV Update: The JV Irish fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-3 loss to Canal Winchester Junior Varsity Indians on Monday. But try to come back they did! Canal Winchester scored 3 in the first, but were shut down until the fifth inning, where they managed to score 3 more runs. Down 6-0, the team fought back and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and only allowed 1 more run by the Indians. Caroline Adams, the southpaw for Canal Winchester, surrendered three runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out 13.  Sophia Jackson started the game for Scioto. The bulldog lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out six and walking zero. Abbi Clark and Jackson each collected one hit to lead the JV.

Both teams are at Franklin Heights on Wednesday! We’ll see you out on the fields to cheer on our teams!

And… Go Irish!
