Olentangy High School, May 6, 2026: A gray sky and a steady chill settled over Olentangy’s field on Wednesday night, with a light breeze cutting through what felt more like late March than May. It was the kind of evening where runs can be hard to come by—and early on, that proved true for Scioto.
Olentangy, however, didn’t wait long to break through.
The Braves capitalized in the first inning with a sacrifice fly and a well-placed single to jump out in front, then added more in the third with a two-run home run that gave them early control of the game. From there, they continued to apply pressure—aggressive on the basepaths and opportunistic at the plate—steadily building their lead.
In the circle, Avery Reynolds battled through six innings, striking out seven and keeping Scioto within reach despite the early deficit.
But offensively, the Irish couldn’t quite find their rhythm.
Hits were limited, and opportunities were even tougher to come by against a steady Olentangy defense that turned key plays and kept rallies from forming.
Still, Scioto didn’t go quietly. Gina Wasko, Abbi Clark, and Maria Wasko each collected hits for Dublin.
In the seventh, Clark ignited a spark. She drove a ball deep to left that was misplayed, allowing her to reach second. Moments later, she took off for third, sliding in safely to put herself just 60 feet away from the plate. After several more sequences, she broke for home on a pass ball and slid her hand across just ahead of the tag, finally getting Scioto on the board and giving the Irish a pulse late.
For a moment, it felt like something might be building as the bases started to load up.
But the rally stopped there.
Olentangy closed it out from that point, ending the comeback hopes and securing the win.
On a cold night where early runs proved decisive, Scioto fell to Olentangy 7–1.
Next up: The Irish return home Friday to face Canal Winchester—for SENIOR NIGHT—another chance to bounce back and bring the energy back to the Scioto field.
