Westerville North Warriors Shut Out Scioto

April 26, 2024

April 25, 2024 – Westerville North High School:  In a final conference match-up at North, the Warriors executed a flawless game to shut out Scioto with a 6-0 win on Thursday.

Westerville North couldn’t score until the bottom of the third inning against Lexie Richie’s strong right arm, when Anna Williams finally hit a single and a subsequent error by Dublin allowed for two runs to score. This early lead set the tone for the rest of the game.

Sophie Minister was the standout performer, pitching a complete game shutout for Westerville North. She dominated the mound — with a lot of help on very outside pitches — giving up just two hits and no runs across seven innings while racking up an impressive 15 strikeouts without issuing any walks. Well, walks that weren’t called. But I digress…

On the other side, Richie shouldered the loss for Dublin. Richie pitched six innings, during which she gave up six runs, but only two were earned, on six hits. She also struck out five batters and walked four.

Offensively, Lyla Magnussen and Maria Wasko managed to each secure a hit for Dublin, but it wasn’t enough to spark a rally. For Westerville North, contributions came from Ryanne Wilson, Williams, and Minister, each driving in one run. Minister also shined at bat, going three-for-three to lead her team.

Over on the other field, our Junior Varsity team put up quite a few runs on a tough North squad – the final score was 21-8. The JV Warriors scored 12 in the bottom of the 1st inning, but our Irish never gave up. Sophie Bird and Fatma Abukar each drove in two runs and they showed great patience at the plate with 9 walks in the game.

Dublin will look to rebound in their next game, a rain makeup against the Delaware Hayes Pacers scheduled for Friday. Lets see if we can’t get a huge turnout at our home field for the game to cheer on our Irish!

Go Irish!
