Scioto Falls to Hilliard Davidson in a Challenging First Round Playoff Matchup

May 8, 2024

May 7, 2024 – Dublin Scioto High School:  After some showers, and with rain threatening to shut down the game, Scioto struggled to keep pace with Hilliard Davidson and was defeated 11-1 on Tuesday evening in the first round of the softball playoffs.

The Wildcats took an early lead in the first inning with two singles, beginning with Camryn Domer, who singled to bring in a run. They further extended their lead in the second inning with RBI singles from Domer and Molly Dennis, pushing four more runs across the plate.

The scoring continued in the third inning when Tayler Conner grounded out, but not before driving the score up to 8-0 in favor of Davidson.

Cam Haug pitched a strong game for Hilliard , surrendering just one run—which was unearned—on two hits across five innings, while striking out three.

In contrast, Lexie Richie was handed the loss for the Irish. Richie, who threw for five innings, allowed 11 runs, six of which were earned, and gave up 10 hits, striking out five and walking three.

Offensively, Richie also shined for Scioto, going 2-for-2 at the plate to lead her team in hits, while Sandra Phrakornkham contributed with two stolen bases. She scored the lone run on one as a throwing error got her home from third base.

On the opposing side, Hilliard Davidson amassed 10 hits, with Dennis and Domer each snagging three hits. Dennis also led with three RBIs. The Wildcats showed aggressive base running, stealing five bases and also turned a double play defensively.

Looking ahead, Hilliard Davidson is set to face Olentangy Orange in their next game, aiming for a district playoff spot.

Despite the tough loss, the Irish celebrated a commendable 2024 season, highlighted by the contributions of seniors Sandra Phrakornkham, Faith Kinzer, Hahni Miller, and Leah Matter. Their hard work, talent, and dedication were acknowledged and will be further celebrated at the upcoming banquet on May 22nd, where the team will enjoy food, share stories, recap the year in photos and video, and present awards.

Congratulations to all, and —as always—Go Irish!
