Westerville South High School, April 1, 2026: A cold drizzle drifted in and out over Westerville South on Wednesday, with dark clouds hanging low and the kind of damp chill that seeps into everything. It wasn’t pretty weather — but Scioto didn’t need perfect conditions to find its rhythm.
From the very first inning, the Irish made it clear they were going to control the game.
Patience at the plate set the tone early, as Scioto worked walks and took advantage of defensive miscues to push across the first runs of the night. What started as a steady opening quickly turned into a relentless offensive surge.
By the second inning, that surge became an avalanche. At one point, umpires briefly paused play to check if the balls had been switched out for softballs with extra bounce. (April Fools… probably.)
Avery Reynolds launched a towering home run to left, part of a five-run frame that stretched the lead and forced Westerville South onto its heels. Lyla Magnussen and Maria Wasko followed with RBI hits, keeping the pressure constant as Scioto’s lineup cycled through with confidence.
The third inning only deepened the gap.
Reynolds came through again with a run-scoring double, and moments later, Wasko delivered the loudest swing of the night — a grand slam to left that broke the game wide open. Even in the mist and fading light, there was no missing that one.
And Reynolds wasn’t finished.
In the fourth, she crushed her second home run of the game, finishing a dominant night at the plate while continuing to command the circle. The right-hander struck out 12 over five innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while keeping Westerville South from ever building momentum.
Behind her, Scioto played clean, error-free defense and stayed disciplined at the plate, drawing nine walks and piling up 12 hits. Magnussen and Reynolds each collected three hits, while Wasko added two in a balanced offensive effort.
Westerville South managed a handful of hits and a couple of runs, but never found a way to slow the steady wave coming from the Irish.
On a night where the weather never cooperated, Scioto did more than enough — rolling to a 22–2 victory over the Wildcats. The Irish welcome Worthington Kilbourne on Thursday for their next game… another epic Battle of Hard Road so come on out and support the green!
GO IRISH!!!
