Dublin Scioto High School, May 2, 2026: A bright sun hung over the Scioto field Saturday afternoon, but the chill in the air—and a steady breeze—reminded everyone it still wasn’t quite spring in full. Still, the conditions set the stage for another tight battle as Scioto hosted Pickerington Central.
Early on, it was the Tigers who struck first.
Pickerington Central found gaps in the second inning, using a double and a triple to plate two runs and grab the early edge. They continued to apply pressure throughout, eventually building a 4–3 lead as the game moved into the later innings.
But even as hits piled up, Avery Reynolds kept things from slipping away.
She worked through traffic all afternoon, allowing 10 hits but never giving in to big innings. She opened 24 of 33 at-bats with a first-pitch strike, avoided any leadoff walks, and battled through 115 pitches with eight strikeouts—keeping Scioto within striking distance when it mattered most.
And it mattered in the sixth.
Trailing by one, the Irish finally found their moment. Abbi Clark delivered first, ripping a double to center that brought home two runs and flipped the energy in the dugout. Moments later, Yonit Rodriguez stepped in and delivered the play of the day—turning a deep shot into an inside-the-park home run, racing all the way around to extend the lead and send the crowd into a frenzy.
Rodriguez finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, sparking the offense when Scioto needed it most.
From there, it was about finishing.
Reynolds returned to the circle and shut the door, working through the final inning to secure the win. Behind her, Scioto’s defense was flawless, turning two double plays and committing no errors, with Maria Wasko anchoring the field.
In a game that stayed tight from start to finish, Scioto found its breakthrough late rallying for a 5–4 victory over Pickerington Central.
